Barcelona Trip

On the 26th May we took 60 students to Barcelona on a sports trip. The trip included training for 2 days with international fixtures/tournaments, visits to Barcelona City Centre, Aquapolis Water Park and a visit to Barcelona’s home ground, Nou Camp.

The night time activities included karaoke, during which some of our students put the staff to shame and the famous disco where our school took over the dance floor and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

The hotel we stayed in was lovely and students enjoyed the large selection of food available. I’m sure all students would agree that they would have liked the pool to be a ‘tiny’ bit warmer! On the last day students enjoyed a walk to the beach and were able to do any last minute shopping while enjoying an ice cream on the beach.

As a department, PE is extremely proud of the 60 students they took away during May half term. From start to finish they represented North Liverpool Academy and the City in a tremendous fashion. This was even commented on by members of the public who were on the plane with us and said “aren’t they lovely students, you should be so proud of them”. The kids were outstanding and an absolute pleasure to be around.

Day 1

We all met at school at about 3pm and we loaded the bags onto the coach. We went off to the airport and all of the kids were in good spirit. When we got to the airport we all checked in and went through to departures. Most of us went to Burger King to get something to eat and then to the arcade before our flight. When we got on the plane we all settled down for the plane journey. We landed in Barcelona Airport at about 11:30 pm but the coach journey to the hotel was one and a half hours so we didn’t get to the hotel until 1 in the morning and we were all very tired but once we got in we all had a good night’s sleep.

Day 2

We woke up and had breakfast then we got ready to go the water park. It was a beautiful day, the water park was packed and we all went on some rides and went for a swim but the worst thing was that the water was absolutely freezing. We also had some food while we were there and in the night we did Karaoke. We all had loads of fun and it was an absolute laugh.

Day 3

On Day 3 we had breakfast and then we had training for 2 hours for our assigned sports. It was another really hot day and we had loads of fun. In the night we had a fixture against a Spanish opposition. However it was a also a Spanish ref and we unfortunately weren’t successful.

Day 4

On day 4 we had another training session for 2 hours and had a game against an English side, which we lost. Then we had a 7 a side tournament which we lost also. In the night we had the disco where we all had loads of fun and we were all tired after it.

Day 5

On the final day we went to the Nou Camp, the kids had loads of fun and after that we went to the airport for out flight home. The night flight was fun and we got back into the airport at about midnight, to finally get back to the school and home.

What a trip!

Half Term Camp

Over the Whit break, NLA held a 3 day Camp for Year 5 & 6 students from our feeder Primary Schools. The camp was held over Tuesday 28th & Thursday 30th May and was a further chance for children to see the wonderful facilities and staff at the Academy. The transition between Primary and Secondary School can be fraught and we aim to do all we can to make children feel welcome and give parent’s an insight to our school.

We had over 50 children attending each day. The children were able to meet staff, make new friends and take part in all manner of exciting opportunities. Those who attended took part in a different set of activities than usual with our very own Mr Fry coming in to run some problem solving and orienteering sessions. There was also some Art and Technology sessions with Miss Donnelly and Mr Fitzpatrick and some general fun antics with Mr Ericsson & Mr Fardey. The final afternoon saw a showing of Despicable Me in the Drama theatre!

Watch this space with how to book a place on the 2 week Summer Camp, which will be open to ALL our new intake of Year 7 students

All (BAE) Systems are Go!

IMG_8169All of year 7 had the wonder of experiencing the BAE Systems Road show.  The intention behind it is to encourage students to consider and highlight the importance of  STEM in schools (the close relationship between subjects and content of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics curriculums.

Thirty lucky students who are proving to be gifted and talented in Technology had the opportunity to take part in an additional workshop using teamwork  and communication skills to solve problems related to STEM.
